Skip Shearer, 53, of Independence, MO passed away, Sunday, December 7, 2008 at his residence after a long and courageous battle from cancer. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Graveside services will be Friday at a private family cemetery in Avard, OK. Skip was born March 9, 1955 in Joplin, MO to John and Lori (Hermann) Shearer. Skip graduated from high school in Monroe, MI in 1973 and received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from UMKC in 1984 and his MS in Engineering Management from KU in 1998. He had worked for 25 years for KCP&L as a Senior Engineer. He enjoyed sports and sports memorabilia, riding motorcycles, running, boating, cooking, attending St. Louis Cardinal’s games and most of all spending quality time with his five daughters. He proudly served in the US Air Force in the early 1970’s. Skip is survived by; 5 daughters, Ashley Shearer of Kansas City, MO, Kayla Shearer, Tennille Shearer, Alison Shearer and Elana Shearer all of Independence, MO; his mother, Lori Perrone of Oklahoma, 5 sisters, Vicky Damon, Sherry Shearer-Ayers, Jackie Birkenhier and Gina Cook all of Oklahoma and Penny Lynner of Minnesota who was his stem cell donor and 2 ex-wives, Marsha and Connie of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers, Jon Shearer and Don Shearer.
