Janet L. (Hedges) Sheffield, 61 of Blue Springs, MO, passed away, Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Lee’s Summit Hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening. at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the American Legion Post #499 in Blue Springs, MO. Janet was born April 26, 1951 in Independence, MO to Chester and Edna Maxine (Sexton) Hedges and has been a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Truman High School and Independence School of Cosmetology. She had worked as a medical office manager at Health South Rehabilitation Center for a number of years. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, cooking, fishing and golf. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #499 in Blue Springs, MO and was in charge of the American Committee sending care packages to the troops overseas. She is survived by; 2 daughters, Kerri Adkins of Warsaw, MO and Nicole Grivno of Raytown, MO; a son, Brian Jones and wife Joy of Independence, MO; 2 sisters, Terri Storms and husband Ellis of Lee’s Summit, MO and Marsha Shepard and husband Dale of Lone Jack, MO; a brother, Jay Hedges and wife Julie of Kearney, MO; 5 grandchildren, Blake, Travis, Gabrielle, Hailey and Tanner and 1 great grandchild, Trinity. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step mother, Barbara Hedges
