Naomi Shepherd (Leaverton)

Naomi Shepherd, 86 of Independence, MO passed away, Monday, March 17, 2014 at the KC Hospice House. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Entombment will follow in Mound Grove Mausoleum. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Animals Best Friends, 2302 S Crysler Ave, Independence, MO 64052. Naomi was born March 28, 1927 in Independence, MO to Frank and Minnie (Veenstra) Leaverton and has been a lifelong area resident. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed camping with her family. She was a member of the RLDS church. Naomi is survived by; a son, Gary Shepherd and wife Mindy of Independence, MO; a daughter, Paula Redick and husband Lloyd of Raytown, MO; 4 grandchildren, Lori Lee, Megan Fluhart, Ryan Shepherd and Nick Younts and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Shepherd in 1991 and her step father Wilbur Hobbs.
