Everett retired from Trans World Airlines on April 1, 1984, following a career of over 19 years as a Line Mechanic. Previously he worked for Johnson Upholstery of Kansas City as a Master Upholsterer; a family craft and tradition, generations old that was passed on to him from his father. After Pearl Harbor, Everett and Gene signed up with the United States Engineers, and traveled to Hawaii to work repairing the destruction there. Following that they both signed up with the U.S. Merchant Marines, and spent 32 months of actual sea time, delivering war materials to many ports in the Euorpean and Pacific Theatres.
