Sherman Edward Glenn

Sherman Edward Glenn, affectionately known as Ed, was born on March 11, 1930, in Ulysses, Kansas. He departed this life on August 27, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, leaving a legacy defined by his devotion to family and his contributions to the community. 

Ed graduated from Syracuse High School in May of 1948 before serving honorably in the United States Navy from October 17, 1950, until August 12, 1954. Post-military service, he devoted over thirty years to his career, working his way up to maintenance foreman at Mobay Chemical Corporation, which later became Bayer Crop Science. His remarkable work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of both colleagues and family alike. 

An endearing personality, Ed was known for his resourcefulness, often described as a jack of all trades. He loved tinkering around the house and yard, even crafting his own weights when he was younger. Ed was not just active; he thrived in every aspect of his life, enjoying activities such as swimming, kickball, and volleyball. He also participated in a walking group at Medical Center of Independence after his retirement, reflecting his commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for gardening, hunting, and fishing. Additionally, Ed was a devoted sports fan, always cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. 

Above all, Ed cherished time spent with his family. He will be fondly remembered for the memories created with his children and grandchildren. His surviving family includes his son, Jeff Glenn; granddaughters, Jocelynn Combs, Jamie Glenn, Kelsey Lentz, and Riley Glenn; grandson, Nolan Glenn; and great-grandchildren, Garrett Combs, Brock Combs, Kyndrie Brown, and Taryn Lentz. He is also survived by his brother, Galen Glenn, and niece, Sherry Sims. 

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 64 years, Shirley Glenn; his father, John Glenn; mother, Hattie Glenn; son, John Glenn; and niece, Kathy Leach. 

A visitation for Ed will be held on September 3, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Speaks Suburban Chapel (18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055). Ed will then be laid to rest at Mound Grove Cemetery. 

Ed Glenn's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, who will continue to honor his legacy through the love and kindness he instilled in their lives.
