George Oviatt Shiffer, 86, Independence, MO passed away Friday, May 24, 2013.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. A celebration of George’s life will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
George was born April 2, 1927 in Kansas City, KS the son of Wm. P. Jr. and Evelyn (Farmer) Shiffer. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. George worked for Kansas City Power & Light, for over 40 years, retiring in 1992 and was a member of the IBEW Local Union 124. George enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially traveling with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Shiffer in 2013; son, William J. Shiffer in 1998; son-in-law, Stephen Mueller in 2009; and sister, Marilyn Storms.
Survivors include his daughter, Georgia Mueller; grandchildren, Lauren Ackerman and husband Paul, Kathryn Gaherty and husband Michael, William M. Shiffer and wife Lois, and Geo. Clinton Shiffer; great granddaughter, Georgia M. Ackerman.
