In Loving Memory of Shila Ann Clark (1933–2025)
Shila Ann Clark, cherished wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, entered eternal rest on November 26, 2025. Born on May 21, 1933, in Rooks County, Kansas, to Mildred Mable Wallace and Earl Vernon McVey, Shila grew up surrounded by love and family. When she was very young, her family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, where she shared a close bond with her only brother, Robert. During her years at Lafayette High School, Shila met the love of her life, Harry Clark, Jr. They married on a snowy winter evening, January 26, 1957, a day that marked the beginning of a beautiful journey together. After Harry graduated from Maryville College (NWMS), they made their home in Independence, Missouri, where they built a life filled with faith, family, and friendship.
Shila and Harry became founding members of Christ United Methodist Church, where Shila’s warm spirit shone brightly. She sang joyfully in the choir, participated in women’s groups, and organized events like fashion show fundraisers to support the church community. Her dedication and kindness touched many lives.
Professionally, Shila began her career at Aetna Insurance in 1959 and, through hard work and determination, rose to a supervisory position before retiring in 1984.
Shila’s creativity was evident in every corner of her life. She loved ceramics, embroidery, antiques, and decorating her home with beauty and care. She was intelligent, fun-loving, and blessed with a contagious sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around her. Her laughter and light will be deeply missed.
Shila leaves behind her beloved nieces, Luann McVey (Richard Steele) and Jeanie McVey; grand nieces Lydia and Laura Steele and their families, and grand nephew, Liam McVey Macaulay; and countless friends who loved her dearly, including Barb and Rick DeBusk, who came into our family out of love and a wish to serve. They helped both her and Harry enter their later years with grace and dignity. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Graveside services in St. Joseph will be listed on the Speaks From the Heart Website once details are formalized. Memorial gifts may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or your local humane society. The family can be contacted at PO Box 210352, Auke Bay, Alaska 99821.
