A beautiful lady named Shirley Thompson entered our world on September 19, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri. She grew to be a wonderful person and married Charles Adrian “Chung” Anderson on April 15, 1960. Chung was a very active man. Shirley helped focus that energy into accomplishing good works and eventually spreading the word of Christ. The Lord blessed them with a daughter, and they named her Trisha. They were great parents, and supported all her undertakings. Trisha understood, “Mom always supported my activities and I know she sacrificed things for herself so I could stay active. When I was down, I always knew she would make things right.” While she supported Chung in the church and his mission activities, Shirley actively supported her daughter in multiple school activities. Shirley even earned certification as a gymnastics judge while Trisha competed in the sport. Shirley stayed involved with the sports booster club at Truman High school and drove a school bus for a few years. She also drove a preschool van for church. She liked driving so much, she delivered vans for dealers. Shirley was truly beloved by the church, assisting in treasury duties, then helping with anything else. Shirley loved gardening and kept their home well landscaped and looking nice. She loved eating out, shopping with friends, talking to her friends on the phone, and reading historical and biographical books. Most of all, she loved her Bible and studied it in detail. Shirley remained very detail oriented and ranked better than Google Maps regarding directions—she always knew where to go and could give incredibly precise directions. Shirley always worked diligently behind the scenes for whatever activities Chung planned—church events, mission trips overseas, etc. She really appreciated all the cards she received from her friends—and saved them all. Shirley adored her dear friend Barb—and Barb's phone calls were a lifeline in the nursing home. Shirley cherished her grandchildren Adrian, Audrey, and Elle. She saved all the pictures, drawings, and cards that were given or made. She was thrilled to get to see her great grandchildren, Mia, Ella, Lucy, Henry, Isla, and Anna. Shirley also supported her stepson Paul, warmly hosting his visits and talking with him over the years. Shirley also kept in close contact with her nephew Bob who also supported her in the waning years. Shirley Anderson grew to be a great person—in the eyes of the Lord, her family, and her many friends. With her passing, the world is a lesser place, but we know she is with family and celebrating with the Lord now!
