Shirley Ann Hodges, 79, passed away on August 29, 2024, in Kansas City, MO. Born on September 19, 1944, in Independence, MO Shirley was the cherished daughter of Reba Martin and Charles Srader and was the second oldest of six siblings.
In 1959, Shirley married the love of her life Darell Hodges, and soon after graduated from Chrisman High School, class of 1962. Her life was a testament to dedication and love. A devoted caregiver, Shirley nurtured her siblings and multiple family members before starting her own family in 1961. She was the proud mother of Aaron, Virginia, Michael, and Paul.
Shirley’s greatest joy was being with her family. Whether she was playfully roughhousing with the kids, sewing new outfits, or preparing home-cooked meals, her heart was always in the center of family life. Known for her tenacity and boundless love, you’d find her asking you what you’d like for dinner just moments after an argument, proving her deep care and commitment to her loved ones. Her wisdom, passed down from the strong women in her life, was generously shared, even if it meant making sure you would sit down and listen.
Family gatherings were a cornerstone of Shirley’s life. She hosted every holiday and cousins' day with warmth and enthusiasm that created precious memories for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her resilience and strength made her a pillar in the lives of many, and her legacy will live on through the love and lessons she imparted.
Shirley is survived by her children Aaron, Virginia and Michael; her grandchildren, Ashley(Chris), Sara, Lauren(Zack), Cheyanne and Zachary; her great-grandchildren, Austin, Easton, Daxton, Hunter, Lilyanna, Hudson, Mason and Archer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darell Hodges, son, Paul Hodges, granddaughter Melissa, granddaughter Katherine, five siblings and her parents.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel: 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055 on Saturday, September 14th with the visitation at 1:00pm and the service to follow at 2:00pm.
Shirley Ann Hodges will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for her unwavering love, her spirited presence, and the invaluable memories she created for her family.
