Lucille E. “Lou” Shirley, 91, Independence, MO passed away Nov. 28, 2011. Services will be at 10 am, Sat., Dec. 3 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Graveside services will follow at 3 pm, at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Red Cross, 211 W. Armour Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111-2094.
Lou was born on Christmas Day 1919 in Warrensburg, MO. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO. She and her husband, Walt, made California their home and retired to Hemet, CA until moving to Independence in 2009. Lou was the buyer for the Cosmetics Dept. of a large department store in San Pedro, CA for over thirty-five years. She was a Red Cross volunteer who managed the Earthquake Relief Center in Riverside, CA. She was a member of the Elks Lodge, N.A.R.F.E., and The American Legions Women’s Auxiliary.
Lou was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years Walter E. Shirley on Feb. 1, 2011 and brothers Leon and Harold Bradley. She is survived by daughter Dorothy Logan, Lee’s Summit, MO: son Wesley L. Shirley and wife Joy, Sedalia, MO; brother John Bradley and wife Betty, Defiance, MO; sisters Betty Payne and husband Irwin, Ocala, FL; Shirley Zumwalt and husband Carl, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Laura Logan; Shannon Krahenbuhl and husband Tom; Myra Wooderson and husband Dale; Kyla Stoltz and husband Rob; Linda Shirley; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
