Larry Dale Shoemaker, age 77, of Grandview, MO passed away on Sept 10, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice from complications due to Parkinson's. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wed, Sept, 14, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his name to the Kansas City Hospice House or Parkinson's Research. Mr. Shoemaker was born on June 29, 1934 in Cheboygan, MI, the son of a Michigan State Trooper. He served two years in the US Army, immediately following the Korean War. He graduated from Graceland College, obtaining his Bachelors from Central Missouri State University. He served many throughout his professional career as an aerospace engineer, Missionary in the RLDS church, and high school teacher. His true career love was aviation as a corporate pilot and volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol. He also was an instructor, teaching corporate pilots. His life experiences took him many places, including moving his family to Puerto Rico, where many fond memories were formed. He was preceded in death by his father, Alverado Dale Shoemaker, and his mother, Martelle Ellis Shoemaker. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carmen Luisa Portes-Mendez Shoemaker, of the home; three children, Lynnette Calder (Dale), Gregory Shoemaker (Jennifer), Dana Shelton (Mark); grandchildren, Cameron Calder (Tiffany), Caleb Calder, Aubrey Shoemaker, G. Curtis Shoemaker, Ashley Shelton, Megan Shelton, and Madison Shelton; and sister, Jeanne Ruoff. Larry Dale Shoemaker, signing off as ham radio operator WAØHLP.
