Carol Shuler, 89, of Independence, died peacefully on April 3, 2011, surrounded by family and friends who rejoiced in her long life and abiding love. Carol was born December 24, 1921, in Independence, Missouri, to Charles and Jessie Binger. She attended school in Independence and later worked at the Wood Craft Company until her marriage to Marvin Shuler. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband who died March 6, 2011, exactly four weeks before her. Her three brothers, Charles, David, and Kenneth Binger also preceded her in death as did her granddaughter, Lisa Durrell. Carol is survived by her son, James Marvin Shuler and wife Donna Sue of Independence, and daughter, Donna L. Shuler of Independence. Also grieving her death are two grandsons, Jim Durrell and wife LueAnne of Grain Valley, MO, and Jason Durrell and wife Connie of Blue Springs, MO, and three great grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan, and Tori Durrell. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, and a long-time member of the Laurel Club. For many years she served as its dining-room chairman and was president from 1994 to 1995. She will be remembered as an exceptional cook who loved her family and her grand-dogs. In November of 2011, she and Marvin would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary as devoted husband and wife. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Interment will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery on North River Blvd. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
