Frieda W. Shults

Frieda W. Shults, 96, Independence, Mo. died Dec. 9, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 2 pm, Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, Indep., Mo. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church. Frieda was born May 4, 1908, in Berger, Mo. she attended school in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman H.S. As a training teacher in 1927, she taught at Oldham School for two years. She graduated from Central Missouri Teachers College in 1933 and taught in Independence until she married Elmer G. Shults in 1935. They lived in Orrick, Mo. until 1939 when they returned to Independence. In 1948, they adopted son Beryl Austin Shults who preceded her in death. Frieda was active in P.T.A. from 1951 until 1964. She was the director of Weekday Education at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church from 1965 until 1979. She volunteered many years at the church. Frieda is survived by her daughter-in-law Kathleen Shannon, K.C., Mo.; granddaughter Hillary Barlow and her children; niece Cynthia Berg, Michigan; and nephew Carl A. Wattenberg, Jr., St. Louis, Mo.
