Shirley Shupe, 81, of Buckner, MO passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO. Graveside services will be 2:15 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m. Monday at Speaks Buckner Chapel. Shirley was born October 4, 1928 in Buckner, MO to Richard and Katherine (Derby) Pence. She was a life-long resident of Buckner having attended Hall Memorial High School and then Central Missouri State University where she received a teaching certificate. Mrs. Shupe taught at Peasedale School on Blue Mills Road. Shirley and her husband Ed owned and operated Cozy Corner Café in Buckner for several years. Mrs. Shupe also worked for the Bank of Independence for 30 years. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ed Shupe; grandsons Jason C. Baker, Lt. Kyle J. Baker, Garrett D. Baker; son-in-law Garry J. Baker; brother and sisters in-law Ron Shupe and wife Barbara, Ruby Pence; and by a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son Gary Shupe; daughter Patty Jo Baker; sister Ann Elizabeth Pence; brothers Allen and Baxter Pence.
