Guinevere D. “Guin” Simmons, 82, Independence, MO passed away March 15, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Tuesday. March 20, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm, Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line, Ste. 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Guin was born July 18, 1929 in Omaha, NE. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO. She earned a Masters Degree from the University of California-Dominguez Hills and operated her own private family counseling practice in Torrance, CA where she lived for twenty-five years. She returned home to Independence, MO in 1988. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence and had been a member of the bell choir and Stephens Ministries. Guin was an artistic person who loved to paint and play the piano.
Guin was preceded in death by her husband William John “Bill” Simmons in 1987. She is survived by son Kevin Simmons and wife Tammy, Marne, IA; daughter Kerry Mooneyham and husband Mike, Parkville, MO; sister Joyce Carver, Independence, MO; grandchildren Jessica McCollam, Indianapolis, IN; Jennifer McCollam, Blue Springs, MO; Kassandra Simmons; Jon Simmons, both of Marne, IA and great-grandson Satsu Edmond Penn.
