Elmer Eugene Simpson

Elmer Eugene Smith, 84, of Independence, passed away, Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at Independence Regional Health Center. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:15 Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel prior to the service. Elmer was born January 28, 1919 in Taylorville, IL to Luther and Sada June (Smith) Simpson. He lived most of his life in the Independence area attending public schools and attended Kansas City Junior College in 1937. He then joined the Army to fight in WWII as a U.S. Combat Engineer from 1941-1945. He met and married Margaret Kathryn Schackman and they enjoyed many years of marriage until her death in June of 2002. He is survived by 3 nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews and 40 great great nieces and nephews.
