Clyde J. “Sam” Slagle, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, Oct. 24 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Chapel with burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Voice Club.
Sam was born August 15, 1926 in Kansas City, KS to Chester and Catherine (Barackman) Slagle. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and then was employed as a road driver for Tucker Freight Lines for more than 50 years before his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Teamster Retirees Club and the Local #41 since 1952 and a member of the American Legion Post #21. Sam was also two time president of the Heart of America Voice Club. Preceding him in death are his wife Berdie Slagle, grandson Danny Slagle, and stepson Terry Jackson. He is survived by his children: Daniel Slagle, Timothy Slagle, and Carol Barnes; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
