Dollie D. Smelser, 90, of Independence, MO passed away June 29, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at the Heritage House Congregation, 660 N. Spring St., Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community of Christ World Church Fund. Dollie was born September 14, 1920 in Hegewisch, IL to Peter and Frances (Glatcsack) McCay. Dollie and her husband John lived in Independence for 28 years, during which she worked as a Layout Operator for Western Electric and retired after 20 years. They moved to Sunrise Beach, MO where they lived for 30 years, and attended Camdenton Congregation. Dollie moved back to Independence in 2006 and resided at the Heritage House. One of Dollie’s favorite pastimes was getting together with friends and playing Skipbo. Her two greatest passions were her family and her church. She was an Elder in the Community of Christ. Dollie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 62 years, John Edward Smelser; brother, Frank McCay; grandson, Raymond Ross Smelser; and her dedicated aunt, Freda Padgett. Dollie is survived by her four children, Edward Smelser and wife Hiromi of San Diego, CA, Tom Smelser and wife Susan of Oxford, MI, John “Jack” Smelser and wife Sheila of Wichita, KS; Patty Harvey and husband Mark of Shawnee, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
