Mary Smeltzer

July 31, 1914 — April 30, 2008

Mary Lorraine Smeltzer of Independence passed away Wed. Apr. 30, 2008 at Wilshire at Lakewood. Services will be 11:00 am, Sat. May 3, 2008 at the Carson- Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Indep. MO with a visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Burial in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Smeltzer was born on July 31, 1914 in Edison, NE to Roy and Lula (Mills) Hill. She had been a salesperson with Montgomery Wards retiring in 1967. Lorraine was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing the organ, embroidering and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of the VFW Post 9997 Ladies Auxcillary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smeltzer in 1988. She is survived by a son, Lynn Owen and wife Virginia of Braymer, MO; a daughter, Delores Smith and husband Tom of Independence. Nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
