Clark E. Smith, Sr., 92, of Independence, MO passed February 26, 2013 at his home. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. service on Friday, March 1, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Entombment at Mound Grove Mausoleum. Clark was born June 20, 1920 in Brunswick, MO to Ed and Hazel (Fordham) Smith. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 101st Airborne during WWII. He received numerous medals and decorations during his service, which include two presidential citations, two bronze stars for bravery and valor, a combat infantry badge and a bronze arrowhead for the invasion of Europe. During his service, Clark took part in the Battle of the Bulge, Invasion of Holland and the Invasion of Normandy. In 1994, he was awarded the Harry S. Truman Foundation Silver Veterans Medal for his participation in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Following his service, Clark worked as an electrical supervisor for American Oil Company (Amoco Oil) for forty years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Alice V. Smith. He is survived by son, Clark Smith II and wife Suzanne; daughter, Diana Marr and husband David; grandchildren, Alice Michele Spillman, Christopher Hoover; great grandchildren, Warren Spillman, Noelle Hoover, Christian and Trinity Hoover.
