Clyde "Skip" Smith Jr.

Clyde Earl “Skip” Smith, Jr., 69, passed away in the early morning of October 29, 2020 in Warsaw, Missouri. Skip’s departure leaves a large void for his wife Grace, his two daughters Dana and Jill, his younger brother Frank Smith, his life-long friend Mark Harrington, hunting buddies, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, lake friends, past co-workers, and neighbors. His easy-going nature created many lasting memories. He loved fishing, hunting, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, doing crossword puzzles, and socializing with family and friends.

Skip was born on February 5, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Floy Alice (Forbes) and Clyde Earl Smith, Sr. He graduated from Van Horn High School in Independence, Missouri in 1969. Skip married his high school sweet heart, Rose Marie Pennetti in 1970. Dana Marie was their one-year anniversary present and Jill Kathleen came two and a half years later. Skip served in the Coast Guard from 1970 until 1974. He was a member of the carpet layers union until 1986. He worked as a rural mail carrier at the United States Post Office from 1986 until he retired in 2014. In 1998, Skip married Grace Witthar. They lived in the Lathrop, Missouri area before moving to Warsaw.

Skip is survived by and will live in the hearts of his wife Grace Smith; daughters Dana Vohs (Andy) and Jill Hazell (Robert); grandchildren John Thomas Vohs, Ella Vohs and Macy Hazell; brother Bruce’s daughter (Terri Bagby) Nikki Smith, sister Kathy’s kids (Sam Parrish) Keith, Kent and Karry Parrish; his younger brother Frank Smith and his daughter, Frankie Leigh Smith. He enjoyed Grace’s extended family of brothers and sisters, stepdaughters: Maggie Wittar, Mellissa Clubb and Leona Tumbleson; 9 step grandkids and 13 great-grandkids. He knew from his early years Jim Pennetti (Cathy and Alex Pennetti) and Melana Howard (Joe, Tom, Mark, Adam and Amy Howard) and still considered them as family. He is also survived by his best friend Mark Harrington, and Mark and Debbie’s children aka Skip’s “nephew” and “niece” Mark and April Harrington; Hags, Casey, “Dole”, any many, many others that knew him, loved him and called him a friend.
He was preceded in death and has joined again, his mother Floy Collens, the man he considered his father, John Collens; his older brother Bruce Smith and his lovely sister Kathy Parrish, and family friend, Debbie Harrington.

To honor him, laugh more and judge less.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, from 9-10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th. St in Independence, MO. Entombment will take place at Mount Washington Mausoleum in Independence, MO. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, occupancy will be limited and family has requested that all attendees please wear a mask.
