John Michael Smith, Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 3, 2011.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church; 10113 E. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO, with a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Mercy.

John was born May 15, 1967 in Kansas City, MO the son of Donald J. and RoyAnn (Rinehart) Smith. He was 1985 graduate of North Kansas City High School. John was a U.S. Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. He received his bachelor’s in business management from San Diego State University. John was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Masonic Lodge, Shriner’s and the Knights of Columbus.

John was preceded in death by his uncle, Lou Vogel and his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife, Pauline; sons, James Michael Forcum and his wife Jennifer Lynn, Nicholas Adam Forcum and his wife Jennifer Lynne; daughter, Melissa Ann Marie Forcum; grandchildren, Keighnen, Autumn, Seth and one on the way; sister, Kathleen Pine; brother Tom Smith and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
