Loren Smith

February 4, 1927 — September 22, 2015

Loren E. Smith, 88, passed away September 22, 2015 with his loving family by his side. A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Church of the Resurrection, 601 NE Jefferson St. in Blue Springs, MO. Inurnment in Wildhorse Cemetery in McLouth, KS, will occur at a later date. Contributions may be made to the church or American Lung Association in his memory.

Loren was born on February 4, 1927, in McLouth, KS, to Chester Ellsworth Smith and Bertha Blanche (Gibbs) Smith. He attended McLouth High School and proudly served the Army towards the end of World War II. Loren met Beulah Ethel Osborn, and they married in March of 1951. They lived briefly in Lawrence, Kansas, but then came to the Independence area after the birth of their first child. Loren worked for a short time as a carpenter and a milkman, but for the majority of his years, he worked for Hostess and Wonder Bread Company as a deliveryman and salesman.

Loren was a member of the Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs, the American Legion, and Teamsters. He was extremely intelligent – he loved to read and enjoyed learning history facts. He watched James Bond and John Wayne movies, as well as doing beadwork and crafts. He and Beulah spent eight wonderful years in a 5th wheel, traveling the great states of Texas, Arizona, and many campsites in between. Loren is deeply loved and will be missed.

Loren is survived by: wife of 64 ½ years, Beulah; three daughters, Fonda McMurtrey, Dena Stricker, and Lori Williams; nine grandchildren: Tonya, Brian, Amy, Shaun, Nicole, Stephanie, Joshua, Ashley, and Dustin; 11 ½ great-grandchildren: Braden, Kaylee, Skylar, Zander, Karsynn, Tatumn, Jamesyn, Miakah, Sierra, Alexandria, Kody, and one on the way; and a host of loving extended family.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Leland and Bill; and four sisters: Jamella, Evelyn, Doris, and Phyllis.
