Roger C. Smith, 72 of Independence passed away Thu. Mar. 27, 2008 at his home. Visitation will be from 6- 8:00 pm, Mon. Mar. 31, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Indep. MO. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Contributions are suggested to Sycamore Hills Baptist Church or to Kansas City Hospice. Mr. Smith was born on Sep. 15, 1935 to Glen and Dorothy (Woody) Smith in Calhoun, MO. He had been a final repairman with the General Motors Leeds Plant for over 31 years, retiring in 1988. Roger was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He enjoyed staying active doing odd jobs, fishing, auctioneering and spending time with his family, especially playing poker with his children. He was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church, the Arrarat Shrine, Raytown Blue Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Glen Smith, Jr and a sister Betty Jane Smith. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Smith of Independence; three daughters, Sue Greisen and husband Pat of Kingsville, MO, Cindy Heidtbrink and husband Greg of Independence and Jackie Stuckey and husband Sean of Independence. Two grandchildren, Jami Larson and husband Matt of Kansas City, MO and Ryan Shockley and wife, Bobbie of Independence. Two great granddaughters, Rayleigh and Peyton Shockley. Two brothers, Robert Smith and wife Delores of Independence and George Smith and wife Thelma of Adrian, MO. A sister, Dorothy Landes of Independence and several nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.
