Thomas Smith

Thomas C. Smith, 62, Grain Valley, MO, died unexpectedly March 6, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 11, 2011 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055; cremation. Visitation will begin at 1 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Disabled American Veterans Post #10, c/o VFW Post #1000, 1002 E. 24 Hwy, Independence, MO 64050.
Tom was born October 16, 1948 in Independence, MO and was a life long resident of the area. He graduated from Van Horn High School in the Class of 1966. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served our country in Vietnam. He worked for Hallmark Cards for thirty-seven years and retired as the distribution warehouse manager in 2004. Tom also worked for the K.C. Royals in the traffic dept. on game days. Currently he worked at Kohl’s Dept. Store in Independence. He enjoyed gardening, golf, baseball, football and was a fan of the Mizzou Tigers.
Tom is survived by his wife Marcia Smith of the home; daughter Susan Smith, Lee’s Summit, MO; brothers Jerry Shrout and wife Pam, Buckner, MO; Don Smith and wife Betty, Lawson, MO; Richard Smith, Independence, MO; sister Tina Rushton and husband Bryan, Kansas City, MO; and brother-in-law Gary Stallard and wife Jannise, Independence, MO.
