Virginia A. Smith (Blankenship)

Virginia Smith, 92, of Independence, MO passed away April 19, 2015. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society. Virginia was born October 16, 1922 in Topeka, KS to Roy and Sadie (Young) Blankenship. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Topeka, KS. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and quilting group. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Smith; sisters, Mary Jones and Ocea Sherretts; brothers, John, Leonard and Howard Blankenship; and grandson, John Pretti. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Pontalion (Andy) and Linda Smith (Betty); brothers, Roy and Charles Blankenship; granddaughter, Cheryl Melton (Ryan); granddaughter-in-law, Patricia Pretti; great grandsons and great granddaughters, Nicholas Pretti, Jessica Kline (Mike), Ella, Alli, Tyler and Trevor Melton.
