Valdeene Smith, 85, of Independence, MO passed away March 15, 2013. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the chapel, with burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Contributions may be made to Center Place Restoration School, 819 W. Waldo, Independence, MO 64050. Valdeene was born February 8, 1928 in Unionville, MO to Okal and Zelma King. She was a lover of bluegrass and country music, crafts and square dancing, though her biggest passion was her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Zion’s Trumpet Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marion Smith in 1997; one sister, Helen Latham; and two brothers, Marvin and Vern King. Valdeene is survived by her three children, Keith D. Smith and wife Marietta, Mark B. Smith and wife Dana, Gail R. Small and husband Jeffrey; two brothers, Kenneth King and wife Kay, James King and wife Nancy; one sister, Melva White and husband Dean; as well as five grandchildren, Lindsey Smith, Corrie Smith, Monica Smith, Sabrina Smith and Matthew Small.
