John W. “Babe” Sopcich, 92, Sugar Creek, MO died Dec. 26, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am, Wed., Dec. 29, 2010 at St Ann’s Catholic Church, 10109 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO; interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to Mass and the Rosary will be said during that time. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to C.C.R.C., c/o Sugar Creek City Hall, 103 Sterling Ave., Sugar Creek, MO 64054.
Babe was born March 23, 1918 in Sugar Creek. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a pipe fitter who worked at the Amoco Oil Refinery and then at the GM plant in Fairfax. He also owned the Do Drop Inn in Sugar Creek during the 1960’s. He was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Parish. He also was a member of VFW Post #3976 and UAW Local #31.
Babe was preceded in death by his wife Amlyr Sopcich in 2006 and his sister Rose Sopcich Salerno. He is survived by his cousin Joseph Sopcich and wife LaVon, Lee’s Summit, MO.
