Iris June Spaulding, 80 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m., until service time Sunday at the chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to the Cub Scout Troop #334 c/o Ridgewood Community of Christ 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. Iris was born June 1, 1931 in Walnut, IL to William Dale and R. Lucille (Montgomery) Burkey. She grew up and graduated from high school in Walnut IL. Before moving to the Independence area in 1949. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed traveling and was a 30-year troop leader for Cub Scout troop #334. She was a member and Deacon for the Ridgewood Community of Christ for 20 years. She was married to Arvine Spaulding for over 43 years until he preceded her in death in 1993. Survivors include; 3 sons, Ricky L. Spaulding, Tommy J. Spaulding (Patty) and Terry A. Spaulding (Carol); 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Siblings, Harold Burkey (Donna Jean) of IL, Monte Benjamin (Pat) of NC, Darryl Burkey of CA. and Gayla Jordan (Joe) of MS. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ramon Burkey and a granddaughter Dawn Monson.
