Roy V. Speer, 81 of Independence, passed away Wed. May 11, 2005 at his
home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Mon May 16, 2005 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., with the Rosary being said at 6 p.m.. Contributions are suggested to the North Care Hospice program. Mr. Speer was born on May 22, 1923 to Roy and Myrtice (Sprayberry) Speer in Trion, GA and had lived in Kansas City, Chattanooga, TN and Montrose, MO before moving to Independence in 1960. He had been an Electrician with Kansas City Power and Light retiring in 1985. Roy had a great passion for fishing and photography He was a member of a local camera club and traveled various parts of the country creating many beautiful photographs. He was a member of St. Mary�s Catholic Church and an Air Force veteran of WWII. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His pride and joy was his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Roy is survived by his wife of 61years, Rose Speer of Independence. Two sons, Richard Speer of Louisburg, KS and Ronald Speer of Kansas City, KS. A daughter in law Diane Speer of Overland Park. Two grandsons and their wives, Rick and Molly Speer and Luke and April Speer. Three great grandchildren, Megan Speer, Isabella Speer and Adam Michael Speer. A brother Larry Speer and wife Judy of Harrison, TN. Two sisters, Elizabeth Durham and Juanita Starling both of Chattanooga, TN and by several nieces and nephews.
