Lauren D. Sperry, 66, of Lake Winnebago, Missouri, passed from this life on July 3, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospice House, after a long illness. At his side were Donna, his beloved wife of 42 years, and his cherished daughters, Monica Bradford and Beth Comer. Also present through prayer and loving support was an extended family that was at the center of his life, coworkers with whom he shared his creative mind and entrepreneurial spirit, and a faith community at Walnut Gardens Community of Christ where he lived out a life of service and discipleship. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8th at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 West Lexington, Independence, MO. A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9th at Walnut Gardens Community of Christ; 19201 R.D. Mize Rd, Independence, MO. Lauren was born August 23, 1948 in Greenwood, MO as one of five children to Roy Mengel and India Margaret (Farley) Sperry. He graduated from Appleton City H.S. and then from University of Missouri, Rolla, with a BA in Mechanical Engineering, class of 1974. Lauren married Donna (McMurray), on May 6th, 1973 and together they raised two wonderful daughters. After working in the natural gas industry for a number of years, he started his own business, Gas & Air Specialty Products, in 1986, growing and developing it until his retirement in 2010. Always an innovator, he was awarded numerous patents for his work in the natural gas industry. He was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ. Always generous with his time and resources, he preferred to live his faith far more than talk about it. Through his vision and initiative, family property at Lake Winnebago was developed into a beautiful villas community. Among all of his accomplishments the unconditional love of his family was the greatest of these. They remember him as kind, generous, silly, ornery, supportive, reliable, trustworthy, and loving.
He leaves his wife, Donna of the home; daughter, Monica Bradford and husband Steve of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Beth Comer and husband Aaron of Mount Ayr, IA; grandchildren, Parker and Keaton Bradford, and Aiden and Belle Comer; sister, Diana Cozad and husband Clyde of Leavenworth, KS., and a large number of nieces and nephews who often speak of him as a favorite uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings, Nelson Charles and Joy Christine; and brother, David Roy Sperry. The family encourages contributions to the Independence Community Services League in his memory; 404 N Noland Rd, Independence, MO 64050.
