Virgil Spiva

February 23, 1951 — July 25, 2011

Virgil “Smokey” Spiva, 60, was welcomed home by our Lord and Savior on July 25, 2011. Visitation will be held on July 29, 5pm-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St, Independence, MO. The funeral service will be held on July 30, 10am at East Side Baptist Church, 19901 E 78 Highway, Independence, MO. Smokey will take his final Harley ride to Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. He leaves behind his wife Cindy Spiva, three daughters and their husbands: Chris and Bryan Osborne, Angie and Doug Van Gorp, Dana and Chip Ellison, mother Betty “Millie” Nichols, brother David Spiva, seven grandchildren: Ashley, Jaydon, Shawna, Jeff, Derick, Trent, Trevor, four great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil F. Spiva. Smokey served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a hard-working, devoted family man who tremendously enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Smokey will be greatly missed by his family, friends, church family, co-workers and all that knew him. The family asks that donations be made to either the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation or the Down Syndrome Guild in lieu of flowers.
