Esther Sproat

Esther Frances Sproat, 95, Excelsior Springs, formerly of Blue Springs, MO passed away Monday, December 12, 2011. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO 64052. Burial to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Esther was born July 26, 1916 in Indiana the daughter of William and Ruth (Denton) Cook. She retired from Sears and worked with the American Red Cross for 20 years traveling and assisting with natural disasters. Esther was a lifetime member of the Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school, served as treasurer, choir member and worked in the food pantry.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Sproat in 1978; two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her son, William Sproat and wife Sandra of Orrick, MO; grandson, Brian Sproat and wife Denise of Kodiak, AK; great grandchildren, Coryssa and B.J. Sproat; brother, Bob Cook; sister, Pauline Dutton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
