Delton Steffen, 76, of Independence, MO went to join his savior on July 30, 2006. Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 4, 2006 at Timothy Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends at 9:30 am until service time. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church. Interment, with military honors, at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Delton was born June 2, 1930 to Clarence and Meta (Runge) Steffen in Cherokee City Iowa. As a young man Delton joined the Navy and served on the USS Yorktown during the Korean War. After serving his country, he joined Yellow Freight, where he remained for over 30 years until his retirement in 1992. Delton was a lifelong faithful member of Timothy Lutheran Church. Since his retirement Delton had also been a member of the "Rusty Zipper Club�. Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife, Barbara Thrown-Steffen of the home, daughter Kathleen and husband Phillip Stephens of Blue Springs, and son Kenneth and wife Denise Steffen of Independence. Other survivors include; step daughters, Debbie Campbell, and Kandy Goldesberry, grandchildren; Eva Stephens and fianc� Stephen Moore, Amy Stephens and fianc� Brad Backes, Daniel Stephens, and Melanie Steffen, 8 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Gerald, Wesley Steffen; sisters, Darlene Brannon and Joyce Mathis. Delton is preceded in death by his parents, and wife of 50 years, Arlene Steffen, and brother Ronald Steffen.
