Stephen Lee Ferguson, 77 of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 at his residence. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel. The family suggest donation in his name to Shriner’s Hospital, ASPCA, St. Jude’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Program. Stephen was born January 24, 1948 in Independence, MO to Robert Lee and Frances Marie (Tuttle) Ferguson and has been a lifelong area resident. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1976-82 after achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He worked as a machinist for BNSF Railways for over 32 years before retiring in 2011. He enjoyed attending the Kansas City Mavericks and was a season ticket holder for many years. He also served as minister for over 35 years starting his own non-denominational church. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Greta (Wiley), his high school sweetheart, of the home; 3 children, Stephen Ferguson II of Independence, MO, Gretchen cooper of Warsaw, MO and Edith Payne (John Babbin) of Higginsville, MO; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Mike Ferguson of Independence, MO and Thomas Ferguson and wife Kay of Grain Valley, MO and a sister, Cheryl Flowers of Independence, MO.
