John E. Stephens, 85, Sugar Creek, MO passed away Jan. 7, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Jan. 14 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO 64052; interment with Full Military Honors at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
John was born July 13, 1926 in Independence, MO and was a life-long resident of Sugar Creek. He worked at the Lake City Arsenal for thirty-three years before retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of the American Legion Post #340 in Sugar Creek, a Life Member of VFW Post #3976 for over sixty years and a member of the Twenty-five Year Club at Lake City Arsenal. John was a big football and baseball fan.
John was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years Mary Stephens, of the home; daughter Kathey Blankenship and husband Dennis, Cabot, AR; sons John J. Stephens and wife Sandy, Sugar Creek, MO; Jim Stephens and wife Sondra, Kingsville, MO; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
