Kenneth Steuer, 83, of Independence, MO passed away June 21, 2010 at his home. Kenneth was born May 12, 1927 to Max and Jennie (Strothmann) Steuer in Racine, WI. His father passed away when Ken was young and he began to sell newspapers and later worked at a grocery store to support his family. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving during WWII. After his return, Ken attended the conservatory of music in Kansas City, playing the drums. When finished with his schooling he played in a Big Band. He worked in food service for many years and then became a bus assistant for the Blue Springs School District for ten years prior to his retirement at the age of 80. Ken served as President for the Spina Bifida Association, attended the March of Dimes for Easter Seals, and supported the American Cancer Society, although his main focus was always directed towards working for disabled children. Ken devoted his life to his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Wilma Jean (Highley) Steuer; son Michael Steuer; son Greg Steuer and wife Theresa; daughter Michele Steuer; grandson Rob Steuer; sister Eleanor Kimmerle; sister-in-law Sheila Logan; and a host of extended family and many friends. His parents and sister Lorraine Demars preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Thursday, June 24 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, June 25 at the Chapel with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Spina Bifida Association.
