A long-time resident of Blue Springs, MO, Hattie Lorene (Forester) Stevenson passed away April 14, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:0 am, Friday, Apri 18, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO. Visitation will be 6:00 -8:00 pm, Thurday, April 17, 2014. Immediately following services, burial will be at Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 South Brookside Ave, Independence, MO.Hattie Lorene Stevenson was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lula Forester; her beloved husband, Vernon; two brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her only child, Nancy Lindsey of Grain Valley, MO; two granddaughters, Lynn (Nate) Combs of Grandview, MO and Nancy (Ray) Flach of Palm Bay, FL; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren, her latest born just days before her passing.Hattie Lorene was born in Moody, MO and lived on her parents’ farm until her mother and siblings relocated to Kansas City, MO. Following her graduation from Manual High School, she worked at various jobs and supported the war effort. She met and married the love of her life, Vernon F. Stevenson, on June 26, 1944. Together they raised one daughter in Independence, MO. After her daughter entered elementary school, Hattie Lorene took a job at Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, MO and worked there many years until her retirement. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, GiGi, aunt, cousin, friend, and coworker. She was a Christian and most recently attended Blue Springs Christian Center.Hattie Lorene was a wonderfully caring, selfless person who loved to help others and knew hard work her entire life. She was so proud of her family and circle of friends and extended love and friendship to everyone she met. Among her passions in life were attending church, gardening, quilting, spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks’ cabin, entertaining her family, playing canasta, Scrabble and Wheel of Fortune, and caring for others. She was an exceptional role model and a “second Mom” to more than one blessed person. She will be sorely missed by all of us.While we mourn her passing, we know that she is in heaven, reunited with those who preceded her. Her final wish was that everyone would come to have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. John 3:16
