Herman L. “Pete” Steward, Jr., 49 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Cancer Treatment Center of the Midwest in Zion, IL. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Cancer Treatment Center of the Midwest 2520 Elisha Ave., Zion, IL 60099. Pete was born November 2, 1961 in Clinton, MO to Herman L. and Linda (Cordell) Steward, Sr. He spent his early life in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1980. He had worked as a truck driver for Mid States Supply in Kansas City, MO for the past 13 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of Teamsters Local #541 in Kansas City, MO. He was married to Alice Bell on April 27, 1990, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 4 sons, Jason Lee Pruitt of Independence, MO, Jason Leroy Steward of Lacygne, KS, Justin Pruitt and Aaron Pruitt both of Clinton, MO; his mother, Linda Steward of Clinton, MO; a brother, Doug Steward of Clinton, MO; 2 sisters, Kay Goth and Peggy Sue Easter both of Clinton, MO and 2 grandchildren, Jason Lee Pruitt, Jr. and Madyson Nickole Pruitt. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Susan Janelle Steward in 1984.
