Ronald Stobart

November 18, 1941 — April 18, 2011

Ronald E. Stobart, 69, of Independence passed away Monday, April 18th 2011.

Ron was born November 18, 1941 in Independence, MO. He and his twin brother were the first born of five children to Lamar and Eloise Stobart. Ron was a graduate of William Chrisman High School in the class of 1960. He joined the armed forces in 1960 and served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy. A Vietnam Veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1964. Ron married Pamela Kummer in 1969 and had 3 children, Kirk, Jessi, and Zach. During his 60 years as an active member and leader in the Boy Scouts of America, he earned his Eagle Scout award and was a Firebuilder in the Tribe of Mic-o-Say. His true passion in scouting was the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Through his scouting career, Ron visited Philmont on 16 treks. Along with his love for scouts, Ron was an active member of his community where ever he went. Ron served on the Fort Osage School Board of Education for 18 years.

Through volunteering in scouts and the Fort Osage School District Ron has touched countless lives. Along with his love of volunteering, Ron spent his time with his four grandchildren. He always enjoyed taking them fishing, camping, and attending their sports and school functions. Above all, he loved taking vacations to Jekyll Island, Georgia and visiting Goofy with his grandchildren. He loved to teach others to cook over an open campfire and in the kitchen. Many people will miss his seasonal treats of apple dumplings, banana bread and pumpkin rolls.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Tom Stobart. Ron is survived by his wife Pam of 41 years; son Kirk Stobart (Samantha); daughter Jessica Talcott (Mark); son Zachary Stobart (Cassandra); grandchildren Shelby Stobart, Luke Talcott, Kelcey Stobart, and Logan Talcott; two sisters Bev and Sue Stobart and brother Larry Stobart.
