V. Kathryn Stokes

V. Kathryn Stokes, 96, of Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Cremation with interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. Kathryn was born January 19, 1911 in New Sharon, IA to Henry and Loula K. (Terman) Castner. She was married to Keith B. Stokes on May 16, 1931. Mrs. Stokes was a long-time member of the Community of Christ Church where she was active in the Laurel Club for over 50 years, and in the Stone Church Women’s Department. Kathryn is survived by her children Karma Clemens; Kerry Stokes and wife Joann; grandchildren Mike Carlson (Sharon), Monte Carlson (Debbie) and Mitch Carlson (Lynette), Tom Clemens Jr. (JoAnn), Tami Clemens, Tera Carey (Mark), Allyson Massey (Greg), Anessa Reynolds and Aaron Stokes (Holly); 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; 7 step great-grandchildren; 15 step great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ralph Hensley; sister-in-law Betty Stokes; a niece and nephew. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her husband Keith B. Stokes in 1997; daughter Karlene Carlson in 1993; grandson Mark Carlson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Temple Fund.
