Sue Simpson Evans of Blue Springs, MO passed away on July 31, 2024 at the age of 83. She was born on November 22, 1940 in Wichita, KS, daughter of Lloyd R. Simpson and Martha E. Simpson. She graduated from Newton High School in 1958 and from the University of Kansas in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Art. She was a member of the Chi-Omega sorority. Following graduation, she worked as an artist for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO. She married Thomas J. Evans in 1965. She volunteered as a docent at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She was an active member of the Blue Springs Art Committee and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. After her faith in God, her greatest love was being a wife to Tom, mother to Mike and Dana, mother-in-law to Andy and grandmother to Katie and Brooke. She was known for being a wonderful cook and entertainer. She greatly enjoyed serving her family and friends in this way. When they were younger, she delighted in reading to her granddaughters and baking cookies with them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Robert Simpson. She is survived by her son, Michael Evans of Blue Springs; daughter Dana Mitchell of Lee’s Summit and her husband, Andy; granddaughters, Katie and Brooke Mitchell; sister, Anne Hobbs of Alexandria, VA.
Visitation will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 10:00am-11:00am. Funeral to follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, 4500 Little Blue Parkway Independence, MO 64057.
