Leona Mae Sullivan, 88, Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011.
A Celebration of Leona’s Life will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church; 3601 S. Sterling, Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Friday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Crossroads Outreach Baptist Church Center Building Fund.
Leona was born February 1, 1922 in Independence, MO the daughter of Robert L. and Osa Delphia (Hopkins) York. She had worked for Emery Bird Thayer where she met and married her husband James E. Sullivan in 1949. She later worked as an accountant for Safeway. Leona attended Crossroad Baptist Church in Kingsville, MO and St. Paul United Methodist Church, Independence, MO. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ivanhoe #244 – Eastgate, Social Order of Beauceant #150 and Daughters of the Nile. Leona was preceded in death by her husband James Sullivan on August 25, 1990; sisters, Anna Margaret Netz and Mary Louise Wilson and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Randolph and her husband Dennis of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Alicia Garrett and her husband Thomas and Brian Randolph; twin great grandsons Ayden and Talen Garrett; nieces JoAnn Kinnaman and her husband Edward of Blue Springs, Sandra Long and her husband and her husband James of Holts Summit, MO and Sarah Waterman and her husband Vernon of Holden, MO; and eight great nieces and nephews.
