Dr. George R. Surprise, 86, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Friday, February 3, 2012, in his home. George was born on August 18, 1925 in Kansas City, KS to George and Mary Surprise. He attended Bishop Ward High School, Rockhurst College, and Kansas City Dental School. George proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He married the love of his life, Margaret Fitzgerald, on August 19, 1950. George practiced dentistry in Independence, MO for over 35 years. In addition to being a founding member of the KC Chief’s Red Coaters, George was an avid golfer. His passion for golf was fueled by all the fellowship with friends, that was shared while enjoying the game. George loved spending time with his wonderful family and always held a special place for them in his heart. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret; his parents; daughter Mary Hugney; and sister Margaret Lester. George is survived by his daughters Connie (Kris) Kramer, Debbie (Mike) Couch; sons George and Mike Surprise; sister Dorothy McNeil; grandsons Carey, Bill, Eric, Kalvin, Damien, Steve, Marc, and Steven; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Funeral Mass for Dr. Surprise will be at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO, 64055. A visitation will be held before Mass from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Roger Maris Cancer Center, c/o Sanford Health Foundation, P.O.
