Kenneth Swartz

Kenneth Swartz, 85, of Independence, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Kenneth was born October 10, 1924 to Lynn and Mary (Gregory) Swartz in St. Joseph, MO. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country during World War II. He married Mary Lorene Wilks in 1944 and together raised one son, Terry. Kenneth worked as a sales manager and buyer for Montgomery Wards for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982. Upon retirement he enjoyed tending to his yard and flowers, traveling with Mary, craftwork, and frequenting the casinos. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his son Terry Swartz. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Lorene Swartz; daughter in law Darla Jeanne Swartz; grandchildren: Chrysta DeSean Sevic and husband Joe, Brandon Swartz, and Jaimie Swartz; great grandchildren Carter and Lindsey Sevic; foster children Linda Shoemaker and husband Larry, Brenda Cook, and Mark Chaney; and foster grandchildren Alana, Christina, Brad and Susan. A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18 at Floral Hills Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
