Craig B. Swenson, 73, Lee’s Summit, MO died Jan. 25, 2010. A memorial service will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Lee’s Summit Christian Church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Lee’s Summit Christian Church Fund for Medical Assistance, 800 NE Tudor Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
Craig was born Oct. 30, 1936 on the family farm near Ellsworth, IA. He was graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1954. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Kansas in 1959 and his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1963. He worked for Union Carbide for five years before beginning his thirty-five year career at the Bayer Corporation. He retired in 1998 as the Vice President of Production Operations. After his retirement, he spent time in Mexico as a consultant for two years. He was an active member of the Lee’s Summit Christian Church and previously at the Northeast Presbyterian Church. He served on the KU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Craig was an avid runner and ran in several marathons. He also enjoyed KU sports, traveling and spending time with his family �" especially his grandchildren.
Craig is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Carole Swenson, of the home; son Doug Swenson, his wife Laura and their daughter Jessica, Castle Rock, CO; son Scott Swenson, his wife Doneda, and their daughter Brooke and son Colton, Oak Grove, MO; and his sister Geraldine Perry and husband Larry, Kansas City, MO.
