Sylvia Brackman, 90, went home to her Savior on August 27th, 2024.
Sylvia was born on February 6th 1934, in her Grandma Larson’s house in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of David and Caroline Crow. She was the youngest of three siblings. She lived at 39th & Crysler until the age of 8 when her family moved to Raytown. Approximately 5 years later she moved back to Independence and resided in the home until she married.
She attended Raytown High School for 4 years and graduated in the class of 1952.
She married Alvin Anderson on September 8th 1956 and to this union were born 2 children, Robin and Myrna.
Sylvia went to work at Equity Mutual Insurance Company typing letters for attorneys and underwriters. In 1958 she began working for Educational Credit Bureau for a year or so until her first child was born August 15, 1959. Exactly 3 year later on August 15th her second child was born. In order to be at home with her children, she learned to read Stenotype so she could transcribe court reports and depositions for various reporters. This eventually led to her working for Hostetler & Associates, as a transcriber and proof reader, for over 20 years.
Her first husband passed away February 5, 1977. In June of 1980, Sylvia met a man she knew from high school and married Richard Brackman October 10, 1980. She then gained two step children, Sabrina and Spencer. Dick & Sylvia were married 37 years when Dick passed away on October 16, 2017. During the years they were married, she was blessed to be able to travel and enjoy much of the United States.
She was a baptized member of the RLDS church and attended Shawnee Drive for many years. She remained in the Restoration movement and spent several years at Hill Cumorah before joining Colbern Road Restoration Branch. Sylvia was active in her congregations, serving as Secretary for years, and also served on the Board for Zion’s Ridge campground.
Sylvia will be remembered and loved by her children: Rob Anderson, Myrna & Dennis Farnan, Sabrina Rankin, and Spencer & Geri Brackman; her grandchildren: Savannah Mullen, Alicia & Joe Grindstaff; her great grandchild Ariah; son-in-law Andy Gross, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones who were privileged to have known her.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 14, at 11 am, at Colbern Road Restoration Branch.
