William James Tankard
Wm. James Tankard, 94 of Independence, MO, passed away, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Community of Christ Temple Fund. Jim was born December 21, 1913 in Independence, MO to Alma James and Ada (Clark) Tankard. He worked for over 30 years as a printer/compositor for the U.S. Government Printing office in Washington, D.C. until he retired in 1979. After retirement he moved back to Independence, MO. He held the office of Teacher in the Community of Christ and was an active member of the Stone Church congregation. He enjoyed auto mechanics, reading, traveling, photography and playing the violin. He was a member of the International Typographical Union in Washington, D.C. He married Charlotte (Plain) on June 13, 1937; she passed away on September 13, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a son, James A. Tankard in 1993 and a sister, Frances Epperson in 2002. He is survived by; 2 daughters, Barbara Thatcher and her husband Phillip of Independence, MO and Carol Costantini and husband Joseph of Vienna, VA; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Tankard of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Stacey Boerger, Joseph Costantini, Kathy Tankard, Shelly Carpenter, Jared Thatcher and Bethany Allgeyer; 3 great grandchildren, Olivia Costantini, Kevin Boerger, Valleria Costantini and Baby Boy Carpenter due August 2008.
