Harold Redmond Teevan, (76) peacefully passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his home in Independence. Harold was born on September 10, 1935 in Lynn, Westmeath, Ireland to James and Grace (Redmond) Teevan. At age 18, he arrived in New York from Ireland on a student visa. One year later he was drafted in the US Army, became a citizen and was stationed in Hawaii where he met and married Calista Mira on September 8, 1956. After his honorable discharge, he and Connie moved to the Kansas City area and started their family. He was a supervisor at Calvin’s Communication for over 25 years and retired from Custom Color in 2002. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Anthony Teevan; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Teevan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years and six children: Debbie (Bob) Emo of Independence, Grace (Mick) Davidson of Kansas City, Jim Teevan of Kansas City, Brendan (Gina) Teevan of Lee’s Summit, Kevin (Rhonda) Teevan of Independence and Joan (Brent) Pulliam of Smithville; and 18 grandchildren: Adam (Jaclyn) Emo, Brett (Jen) Emo, Emily (Matt) Melville, David and Bobby Emo; Jennifer (Robbie) Jobe and Anna Davidson; Jamie Teevan, Brianne (Enrico) Bongiovanni, Nina and Victor Teevan; Bailey and Delaney Teevan; Erica, Jessica and Kyle Teevan; and Alex and Shannon Pulliam; and 9 great-grandchildren: Connor, Alyssa, Adelaide and Aurelia Emo; Brodie, Colton, and Ava Jobe; Isaiah Harris and Xavier Teevan Horn; an older brother, Frank (Pauline) Teevan of Dublin, Ireland; a sister-in-law, Deirdre (Anthony) Teevan, North Hampton, England; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Harold was a member of St Ann’s Catholic Church in Independence. He was a dedicated and active volunteer and supporter of St. Mary’s High School, Independence and its athletic programs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church; 10113 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the St. Ann’s Church or Crossroads Hospice.
