John Thomas

John Robert Thomas, 90, of Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of ElDorado Springs, MO, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital East. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Coventry Estates Baptist Church, 17133 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Coventry Estates Baptist Church Missions Fund. Graveside service at 3:00 p.m. in Peninsula Cemetery in Blackwater, MO. John was born January 7, 1917 in Saline County, MO to Edward A. and Mabel (Holt) Thomas. He grew up in Saline, Pettis and Chariton counties and married Irene “Dixie” Dix in Reno, NV on June 20, 1937. John was saved and baptized at age 10 and became a member of Blue Lick Church in Saline County. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene “Dixie” Thomas of the home; son Michael Thomas, daughters Susan Weese and husband Rex, Peggy Srader and husband David; grandchildren James and Tammy Thomas, Debbie Trent, Michelle and Jeff Houchin, Jason Thomas, Felicia Thomas, Julie and Brett Harris, Amy and Steve King, Christopher, Stephanie, Sara and Daniel Srader; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Vangie Hagan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will remember him as the loving husband, father and caring friend that he was. John was preceded in death by an infant son, John Edward Thomas; daughter-in-law Josefina M. deThomas; six-year old granddaughter Rhoda Lee Thomas; brother David J. Thomas and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
